Dr. David Phillips, Pastor
Almost 20 years ago, I began my life in ministry as a youth intern at First Baptist Church of Black Mountain. As a South Carolina native, the mountains seemed like heaven to me. After completing my education at Southern Seminary in Louisville, Kentucky, I followed God’s leading and returned to the beautiful state of North Carolina which has been home to my family ever since.
My ministry continued as a youth minister in the east, in the town of Roanoke Rapids. During that time, I wed my wife, Missy, and we continued to serve the Lord together. After several years, I knew that God was leading me to the pastorate and I became the pastor of First Baptist Church of Enfield, North Carolina. This wonderful church has a rich heritage among North Carolina Baptists. During our time there, our two daughters (Kate and Anna Grace) were born and our ministry grew.
While I loved the flat land, warm spirit, and fantastic barbeque of the eastern part of our state, God was working on a new opportunity. In December of 2003, I became the pastor of First Baptist Church of Rockingham, NC. As pastor there we grew a vibrant children’s ministry and the church grew in number and ministry to the community.
From the pines of the Sandhills to the majestic hemlocks of the mountains of North Carolina, God has now brought my family and me full circle. We are so excited and proud to be a part of First Baptist Church of Clyde. This congregation is energized about service and being a family in Christ. We have a growing ministry to youth and children, a music ministry, engaging Sunday School, an active Baptist Men’s group, outreach program, and preschool.
If you are looking for a place to explore your faith with other believers and serve your God and your community, I have just the place for you. I encourage you to look at our website and to join us on Sunday morning for worship. We meet at 9:45 for Bible study and have worship at 11 AM. I will look forward to meeting you and ministering to you and with you at First Baptist of Clyde!
Grace and Peace to You,
Dr. T. David Phillips
